Memorial Day picnic + my lawn

Hey you! Memorial Day is just a few days away! Do you have any fun plans? My little ones will be with their Daddy this weekend, so we’re celebrating a few days early! I’m still sorta adjusting to this whole co-parenting thing. It makes me sad that I’m not able to spend every little holiday with my kiddos, but I understand the importance of them spending time with their Daddy too!

Any who, the weather here in Ohio has finally (for the moment) been sunny! Temps are rising and we are just aching to get outside!! The kids wanted to celebrate Memorial Day with a little dessert picnic in the yard! If you follow along with me on Instagram, you know just how frequently I share my obsession with flowers! I love planting and nurturing them, not only flowers, but my yard too! A healthy yard is something we enjoy, as much as possible, throughout the warm months. We host a spew of barbecues and birthday’s during the Summer! Being outdoors is a huge part of our family-home life during the the warm months! Our grass is finally starting to look plush and full! All that Spring rain has helped a little too 😉

Creating a regular lawn care plan is something I think that every homeowner should have. Even if it’s just the simple things, like a weekly mow and occasional watering during those super hot summer days. A ‘pop’ of color on the porch!

Tell me I’m not the only one that notices the beautiful, or not-so beautiful front porches and landscaping while on a drive or walk through a neighborhood. I’m always looking and admiring the gorgeous flowers! If you’ve followed me for awhile, you know I’m flower obsessed 🙂

I wanted to dress up my front porch and create a fun, vibrant feel! My house has neutral tones (big shock, right!), so I was inspired to add a little color for Spring! I headed to Lowe’s where I was immediately drawn to the Monrovia Plants section. The bright purple salvia and calibrachoa were the first to steal my attention. I loaded up on a colorful mix of yellows, greens, purple and oranges!

Getting ready for Spring!

By the time March rolls around, I am eager to get into the Spring cleaning mode! Instead of jumping in head first and completely overwhelming myself, I do my cleaning slowly and room-by-room. It’s much easier this way, believe me! Since it’s mid-March and the days are still chilly here in Ohio, I’ve decided to get started on my Spring cleaning! Today I’m going to share with you some of my fail-proof cleaning tips and favorite products to use throughout the kitchen and bathroom!

I’ve always been one to incorporate scents matching the current season throughout my home. With Spring soon approaching, I love adding floral scents like Mrs. Meyer’s Peony scent. Mm, it smells amazing and so fresh! The Peony scent is what I currently have in my kitchen and downstairs half bath. Now here’s how I tackle my Spring cleaning room-by-room. Prep for cleaning by gathering your cleaning supplies together in a caddy or bucket. That way it’s all right there for you!

Kitchen:

Clean things like the coffee pot that may not get cleaned regularly. Fill the water chamber with a 50/50 mix of water and vinegar and run a brewing cycle. Brew at least 3 pots of clean water to ensure vinegar is rinsed out. Clean the carafe with Mrs. Meyer’s dish soap.
Clean any food splashes or spills on cabinets and countertops by filling a microwavable safe bowl with sliced lemon and water, bring to a boil (about 3 minutes), allow steam to release for a couple minutes. Add it to your Grove Collaborative glass spray bottle and wipe it clean using a clean towel.
Toss out any old sponges you have lying around. Replace them with Grove Collaborative walnut scrubber sponges. Replace sponges monthly.

Bathroom:

Invite Spring into your bathroom by adding Mrs. Meyer’s Peony or Lilac hand soap. Add a clean, new towel to freshen up the space without effort!
Using the above mixture of hot water and fresh lemon, clean any unwanted surface stains on the walls or vanity.
Clean around the toilet using Method Antibac bathroom cleaner. Next, scrub the toilet using Method toilet cleaner. It has a delightful spearmint scent!

Classic Touches

One of my favorite ways to add character to any room is fresh flowers! You can seriously never go wrong! My style is to decorate mostly with neutrals so adding pops of color naturally just brings my space alive!

I have a love for all flowers! They’re each so beautiful in their own way. My favorite to use around this time of the year are tulips! Tulips are dainty and delicate, but so beautiful! I love photographing and admiring them when I first put them into water because they’re drooped over somewhat lifeless, but it’s really an alluring trait about them!

You don’t have to have a special touch to create a classic arrangement. I honestly just love going to the supermarket and gathering a bunch of flowers of similar color. Some classic flowers go better together than others, but mixing it up makes it fun and fresh! Pictured, I mixed tulips, blush roses and babies breath. Not your typical combination, but I’m loving it!

Hey you lovely lady you! I’m so glad to have you here, and happy Friday!! Any big plans for the weekend? Nothing big planned here! The weather is still super brisk and we still have snow on the ground! With that said, sounds like staying in is perfect!!

You either love it or you hate it: white! I find myself completely in love with it! The simplicity is calming and the fact that I can so easily change it out or mix in fun prints (just because) totally gets me! With that said, lets get inspired!

French Chic Mantle Design ♥

Come Valentine’s Day I’m usually ready to decorate with pops red, but this year I wanted to opt for a more feminine, pink design! I’ve been having fun decorating with pink lately, it makes me feel extra girly! And my husband doesn’t mind it, in moderation!

While at my local grocery, I spotted these dainty pink carnations on clearance! I snagged two bunches for $1.99 each! I added them to my favorite ceramic pitcher; instant charm! I enjoy carnations just as much as a super expensive bloom. Although the head is smaller in size, they have many, beautiful layers that make them easy to love! I snipped the smaller ones and put them into a mercury glass votive. This mantle is simple, but beautiful. Sometimes I try to enjoy the simple things a little more!

What’s one room in your house that you and your family spend the most time in? Ours is the kitchen! We have a eat-in kitchen and it’s pretty much the center of our house, so we’re walking through it often. When we entertain or host family gathering’s, the kitchen is the main hang out spot.
