Ruffle Burlap Banner

October 6, 2014 by Fotini Filed Under: burlap, burlap banner, diy, DIY banner, fall, fall decor, home decor, ruffle burlap banner 11 Comments

If you’ve been following me for awhile, you know two things… I love banners and I love burlap! I meshed those two things together and create a beautiful ruffle burlap banner! The inspiration comes from a few weeks ago being at one of my girlfriends house and seeing her new banner she had just bought at Hobby Lobby. It looked exactly like this, but came with a $15 price tag, which isn’t bad, but I knew I could make it for less!

Wouldn’t you know I took the lousiest pictures of the beginning stages of this banner, so I’m going to do my very best to explain it! I used jute for the base. I tied one end to an unfolded paperclip, you could also use a crafting needle if you have one, I didn’t, so I improvised. Grab your burlap ribbon, you can find here, I had a bunch laying around so that’s what I used. Feed your jute needle through the middle of the burlap ribbon and leave about an inch and half – two inches in between and then repeat. Do that until you reach the desired length. I used a good bit of burlap ribbon because I wanted a more tight look. You can fluff and perfect it once you are finished!I love the way it looks! What do you think?

Natural Elements, Fall Centerpiece

September 29, 2014 by Fotini Filed Under: centerpiece, diy, fall, Fall centerpiece, fall decor, home decor, nature, pumpkins 4 Comments

Decorating with natural elements may be one of my favorite things to do! It doesn’t matter what season, I am always bringing something from the outside, in! It’s one of the easiest and most affordable ways to decorate!
Fall decor
Now that it’s Fall, you better believe I’m decorating with as many gourds and pumpkins as possible (wink!). I may get a little excessive at the pumpkin patch, so to make it more justifiable to my husband, I told him we would get the seeds from this years haul and plant them next year for our own pumpkin patch! He was okay with that, and I am pretty excited! Anyways, this year I am just crazy about the green gourds and pumpkins and of course, the white pumpkins will always have my heart! I just love mixing them together to create your own special centerpiece or display. I also gathered some fresh branches and intertwined them into the design. I added a few mercury glass votives, and voila!

Cozy Fall Vignette

September 22, 2014 by Fotini Filed Under: cozy corner, decor, diy, fall, fall decor, Fall vignette, home decor, vignettes

One of my favorite things about Fall is being cozy! Who doesn’t love to snuggle up with a warm blanket and a good book on a chilly night after a long day? That is exactly what inspired this simple vignette!
A few weeks back while shopping at one of my favorite little vintage shops in a local town, I found this old organ bench and snagged it real quick! It will go upstairs in my office eventually, as for now, it’s looking beautiful in my little cozy corner! I love using benches as part of my decor because the length allows you to add additional decor (props), plus the space below allows for decor also. It perfectly fits this round basket for pillows and throws!

I just love it! The colors and beauty of fall in such a simple display! So I’m curious, do you create seasonal vignettes? I think it’s a great way to add character to your home and have fun with some of your favorite decor pieces! Thank you for stopping by and I hope to see you back soon!

What’s one room in your house that you and your family spend the most time in? Ours is the kitchen! Autumn on the Porch

September 15, 2014 by Fotini Filed Under: decor, diy, fall, fall decor, Fall porch, home decor 14 Comments

I love decorating my front porch to go with the seasons. Not only that, but I love pulling up to the house and seeing it in all of it’s glory! I was so eager to begin decorating for Fall this year, so I wasted no time!
I had bought a floral wall pocket from Hobby Lobby. I knew immediately that I was going to spray paint it white since my front door was black. So, I did just that.. I spray painted it a flat white, giving it a good two coats. Once it was dry, I grabbed a low grit sand paper and began to rough it up throughout the piece. This gave it some depth and would likely blend in with the natural weathering it will get being on my porch. I had also bought some decorative wheat and potpourri arrangement at Marshall’s. I combined the two arrangements and made it my own! It smells heavenly, and I’m hoping that scent will last a little while even though it’s outside. I made a simple burlap bow using some burlap ribbon I already had and hot glued a clip onto the back. I love putting clips on my bows because I can easily remove them if needed, or move them to another spot of the arrangement if I want.

I’m pretty happy with how this piece turned out! It’s full, screams Fall and looks great on my door! So what do you think of it?

Falling In Love ♥

September 8, 2014 by Fotini Filed Under: diy, DIY banner, fall, fall decor, fall in love, home decor

Although Fall doesn’t officially start until the 22nd of this month, I am in complete Fall mode! It is my favorite time of the year! I am absolutely in love with all of the the rich colors, warm tones and fragrant scents, just to name a few! I’m sure you know by now, I’m crazy for banners! So today, I’m sharing this year’s version of my Fall banner!
To start, grab a book that you will never use, or snag one from Goodwill. I chose the phrase “fall in love” for this banner, so I ripped out 9 pages from the book. Before I cut the pages to size, I printed each letter onto them and moved onto the next step. I grabbed my paper cutter and simply trimmed off the sides of each and fishtailed the bottoms by eye. I use jute for the base of my banner and usually, also, eye the length according to the size of the letters. Simply fold the top of each page over and place a piece of double stick tape to the back and press into place. Hang your banner and voila! Such a timeless piece with a statement!

Making the “Old” New Again!

July 28, 2014 by Fotini Filed Under: diy, kids playroom, lamp makeover, makeover, repurpose, spray paint 6 Comments

It seems I have a “thing” for lamps, and pillows, and chairs… Oh, who am I kidding I am a fool for decor! I don’t see it as a bad thing, but ask my husband and he would probably say different, ha! Anywho, I’ve had a set of lamps just sitting not being used for months. I decided to give one of them a makeover and add it to our basement! We were in need of a lamp of some sort down there anyways! It’s amazing what a little spray paint can do, and a new lamp shade!

Before I started, I put some aluminium foil over the socket of the lamp so it wouldn’t get paint on it. I spray painted using Valspar La Fonda Mirage, flat spray paint. I gave it a nice two even coats. Before the piece was completely dry, I rubbed some of the porous places already in the lamp and it opened them up a tad, giving definition to the lamp! I picked up a charcoal gray lampshade from Hobby Lobby earlier in the week for only $12! It kind of gave me a boost on this project and fit it perfectly! I absolutely adore decorating with neutrals, but the fun of our basement is I went a little outside the box. We opted for a dark gray on the walls and since it doubles as the kids playroom, it’s oozing with color! Stay tuned for the full reveal coming soon!!

Cover Up – – Pallet Art

July 21, 2014 by Fotini Filed Under: basement solutions, diy, pallet art, pallet ideas 9 Comments

I have yet to share the completion of our basement renovation! I am still in the process of adding the finishing touches to the decor! Today, however, I’m sharing a simple project we did that adds a good deal of character to the space!
One of the biggest eye sore’s in our basement was the electrical box. It seemed to be in the most inappropriate spot possible, nearly in the middle of the wall. We wanted to create something to disguise it, but functional when we needed to get to it. So here’s what we came up with! Pallet art on hinges!
To start, we disassembled a pallet, sanded it and stained it. Next, we stenciled “est 2006” on it with black spray paint, let dry and lightly sanded. The stain we used was Weathered Gray by Rustoleum. My husband used two industrial sized hinges since this pallet was so heavy. We also secured a magnet to the end so it would successfully close, but easily open.In time, I intend on adding some cute little clips to display the kids artwork and easily switch it out! You can really let your creativity shine with a project like this!

All American Entry Way

June 30, 2014 by Fotini Filed Under: 4th of July, all American, diy, fourth of july, home decor, patriotic, red white and blue, Summer decor, sunflowers 1 Comment

I said it last week, and I’ll say it again.. I adore decorating for the Forth of July! The simplicity of the flag and the meaning behind it brings a smile to my face! I didn’t go all out with fancy decor this year, I just kept it very simple and used things that remind me most of my love for Summer.
Sunflowers are among one of my favorite flowers in Summer! Their large blooms and bright color brighten any space easily! I think sunflowers make the perfect match with the American flag. For my entry this Summer, I paired a few of my favorite elements into the mix, and I’m pleased with how it turned out!
