Red, White & Blue Berry Trifle

July 1, 2014 by Fotini Filed Under: berry trifle, desserts, patriotic recipes, recipes, red white and blue 4 Comments

Are you looking for a dessert to completely wow your guests this Fourth of July? Look no further!! I am sharing one of my family favorites, and once you taste it, it won’t be hard to see why! This berry trifle is full of flavor and savors your sweet tooth!

The recipe is as follows:
Graham cracker crust
1 1/2 cups finely crushed graham cracker
1/3 cup white sugar
6 tablespoons butter, melted
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Crush graham crackers to fine consistency, pour into a mixing bowl and combine all ingredients until evenly combined. With a fork push the graham cracker mix onto the bottom of a mason jar. Continue for the desired amount of jars and refrigerate for at least 40 minutes. I used Duncan Hines strawberry pie filling that I bought on clearance at Target and spooned it on top of the crust. Next, I added a dollop of cooled whipped cream. Add a few blueberries to garnish on top and there you have it! Absolutely delicious and perfectly patriotic! These are great because you can make them before hand and put them in the fridge to cool further until serving. They are the perfect single serving and they’re just as good the next day too!

All American Entry Way

June 30, 2014 by Fotini Filed Under: 4th of July, all American, diy, fourth of july, home decor, patriotic, red white and blue, Summer decor, sunflowers 1 Comment

I said it last week, and I’ll say it again.. I adore decorating for the Forth of July! The simplicity of the flag and the meaning behind it brings a smile to my face! I didn’t go all out with fancy decor this year, I just kept it very simple and used things that remind me most of my love for Summer.
Sunflowers are among one of my favorite flowers in Summer! Their large blooms and bright color brighten any space easily! I think sunflowers make the perfect match with the American flag. For my entry this Summer, I paired a few of my favorite elements into the mix, and I’m pleased with how it turned out!

Fab Pins of the Week: 4th of July Edition

June 28, 2013 by Fotini Filed Under: 4th of July, cake, desserts, drink, fab pins of the week, food, food and drink, layered cake, patriotic, Pinterest, red white and blue 1 Comment

Hey there! It’s Friday and you know what that means, it’s time to share my favorite pins from this week!
I’m still in full swing of 4th of July prep, so I thought I would put together a roundup of some of my favorite patriotic food & drinks!
From left to right top
1. source   2. source   3. source
4. source  5. source1. If you’re looking for a delicious, light dessert that’s sure to please, than this triple berry trifle is your pick! It’s light cool whip, angel cake and berries make the perfect combination for your taste buds! Not to mention the perfect addition to your 4th of July setup! Head over to SkinnyTaste for the full recipe!
2. How cute is this firecracker red white and blue drink?! The concept is to add the drink with the most sugar content to the bottom and repeat for remaining two layers. Head over and see exactly what drinks she uses and the full tutorial!
3. Last year for the 4th of July, we used a star cookie cutter to shape our watermelon and added them along with blueberries on a wooden skewer. It was adorable and all the guests loved the display! The same concept is used here but hollowing out the center of the watermelon and adding shaped apple garnished on top with a blueberry. However you decide to do it, it’s sure to turn out a hit!
4.  Get the perfect drink for guests by adding a personalized printable and firecracker straw to any beverage!  These sparkling lemonade bottles are darling and key to cooling down your busy guests!
5. Wow, this cake is flawless! It’s too bad I can’t find the original source to gawk over this cake! It’s a beautifully precise white and red multi-layered cake with what I’m assuming to be blue fondant. Don’t fret, if your baking skills aren’t this perfect, using the same concept to create a layered cake and adding food coloring to store bought icing, will create the same reaction out of your company! Once they see cake, they will eat cake 😉
** Update: Please be sure to visit the source link for #5, I was contacted by a viewer directing me to the original link of this cake with detailed instructions, enjoy!!

I hope you have a spectacular 4th of July!!

Red, White & Blue

June 24, 2013 by Fotini Filed Under: 4th of July, burlap banner, crafts, diy, DIY flag, flag, fourth of july, garden flag, home decor, patriotic, patriotic decor, red white and blue 19 Comments

The older I get, the more I love to decorate for the 4th of July! I’m not sure if it’s the bright color combination, reason for celebrating or feeling it brings that makes it most special, but I love it! Last Friday I posted my weekly “Fab Pins of the Week”, which you can see here, all with 4th of July inspiration! Among my favorites was an adorable burlap bubble wreath with red white and blue ribbon. So I decided to give my burlap wreath a makeover, and something crazy happened… I got inspired for another project 😉

First I’ll show you how my burlap bubble wreath makeover went! The technique I used to update it was quite simple. I bought red and white striped ribbon, as well as, a beautiful bright blue from Jo Ann Fabrics. I grabbed 2 pipe cleaners I already had at home and cut them into about 2 inch pieces. To begin, I simply tucked the end of the red and white ribbon onto my wire form, left about 3 inches of ribbon vertically and secured with pipe cleaner. I continued until completed. I wouldn’t worry about fixing your burlap as you go, wait until the end to cover up the gaps, if necessary. Next, grab the blue ribbon and cut three lengths of ribbon in descending size (long, medium, small). Fold the length of the ribbon in half and tape into place. Layer the ribbon on top of eachother (again long, medium and small) and use floral wire to tighten the center. Grab a long piece from your extra blue ribbon and tie it into the middle of your bow, fishtail the ends, poke a small piece of floral wire to the back for attaching to the wreath, and voila!

I love how it turned out, it really makes our new black door POP!

And so now we’re onto the project I was pretty excited about sharing! I wanted to make my own garden flag for the stake in front of my house. While I was at Jo Ann’s picking up the ribbon for my wreath, I browsed the burlap (because everyone does that every time they’re at the craft store, right?!) and the silver polka-dotted burlap just had to come home with me! I got a half a yard, but that was more than enough. Once home, I grabbed a flag I already had to measure the size. I left about and inch on each side, as well as, the bottom. I left a good two inches on top since this would be the part that would be sliding onto the garden stake. With my sewing machine, I sewed the sides and bottom. I looped the top piece over and sewed the edge, make sure to leave that middle space open!! I took remaining ribbon from my wreath update, cut them at different lengths and sewed them together, then sewing them onto the middle of my burlap. For the finishing touch I fishtailed the ends of the ribbon!

I was quite happy with how it turned out and it looks beautiful blowing in the wind J
