Customized Stenciled Sign

November 9, 2015 by Fotini Filed Under: diy, home decor

Hello friends! To some I may be known as the crazy sign lady… What? No, no one has ever called me that! 😉 But, I love signs… I love making signs. Can you ever have enough of them? When the opportunity came up to work with Wall Masque stencil company, they told me they had a customized stencil option. I hopped on that like a hot cake, that is right up my alley!

The process for submitting a custom design was rather simple. I created an image using PicMonkey and sent it to them. Within minutes, I had a response that my design had been accepted, and I received my stencil a couple of days later! I opted for “farmhouse chic hardware co.” because it’s so fitting to our household! Of course my blog is Farmhouse Chic, but my husband also builds custom farmhouse tables, so it was a no brainer!

To begin, my husband took three narrow pallet planks and screwed them to a small piece of plywood. I sanded the wood down for a smooth consistency. Next, grab your stencil and tape into place. Using a take your desired paint and blot over the stencil. I used . It’s my go-to for projects! Don’t get paint happy, use a small amount so it doesn’t create puddling, you can always go back over it if needed. Remove your stencil while the paint is still wet! I allowed my sign to dry completely, and I roughed it up very little using a sanding block. To finish, I sprayed with with a matte clear coat. We hung that pretty up and just love it <3

Hello there! It’s a pleasure to have you here today! As much as I am ready to bust out all of the Christmas decor and start decorating, I want to take a little time to reflect on just how thankful I am! I think it’s important that we don’t lose site of Thanksgiving and what it signifies! There is absolutely nothing wrong with decorating for Christmas early (and believe me, I will be!), but I also want to take some time to focus on the Holiday we celebrate this month first! Today I will be sharing with you my elegant Thanksgiving tablescape!

Fall Home Tour 2015

September 28, 2015 by Fotini Filed Under: fall, home decor 11 Comments

Well hello there! I’m so happy you stopped by today! Today I’m sharing my Fall Home Tour 2015 with you all!! I have been so stinkin’ busy lately preparing for the Fall Barn Sale in a couple days, that I honestly haven’t even pulled out my usual seasonal decor. So, needless to say, so far this Fall I have decorated mildly, but I’m still loving it! Please come in, kick your feet up and get cozy for a bit!

Fall home tour

Our little Corgi, Lola, is ready to welcome you with puppy kisses at the door! Did you get the chance to check out my Fall front porch I shared last week? You can check out that post here!  As soon as you walk into our home, we have a very open concept and I wanted to try to capture that for you all, as best as possible! Immediately to your right you will see the Windsor bench I shared with you all a few weeks ago! You can view that post here! I had fun adding a tarnished champagne bucket and rolled book pages! It feels like such a cozy spot!

Our living room is a large open space with cathedral ceilings, that opens up to our formal dining room and kitchen. As you may well know, I decorate with a lot of neutrals, so this home tour is showcasing that style. We plan to remodel the kitchen this late Fall/Winter, so I didn’t share any pics of the kitchen. It’s the only part of my house that I feel doesn’t “fit”. We have maple cabinets and green countertops, yuck! We can’t wait to get started on that project!!

The Windsor Bench

August 31, 2015 by Fotini Filed Under: diy, home decor 13 Comments

Hello friend! It’s great to have you here today! It was a beautiful weekend that consisted of lots of laughs, dreamy weather and a little farm market that had pumpkins!! As you can imagine, I was ecstatic about that! I have been busy preparing for the barn show I will be a part of the first of October ( I will share more about that later!). That has put me even more in the mood for Fall, because I’m making so many lovely Fall decor items! With that said, I finally finished the Windsor bench and I was eager to decorate it for Fall 🙂

A few months back while shopping at a local Antique Mall, I came across a really lovely, old black Windsor chair. I mean this thing was beautiful! I quickly looked at the price tag, only to be shocked it was $495! Say whaaat? Crazy stuff right there! I left, somewhat, broken hearted…

She lived…

July 27, 2015 by Fotini Filed Under: diy, home decor 16 Comments

Hi friends! It just blows me away how time is flying by… Do you feel the same way? It’s hard for me to believe that we’ve lived in our house for over 3 years now, and my youngest babe is going to pre-school this year! My goodness, it’s all happening so quick!

That’s just it, life doesn’t stop, it only seems to go faster as you grow older. Creating a life that you love is what has inspired me for the project I’m sharing with you all today!

DIY wood art

You may recall me sharing a I created for earlier this month. You can find that post and free print ! I just love this saying, “she lived a life she loved”… At this time in my life, I am so happy right where I am! It hasn’t always been this way though, just like everyone else, our little family has had its trials and tribulations. Yet, here I am standing tall and loving every minute of every day! I hope you are at the stage in your life too! If you aren’t, don’t worry, just continue to pray for what it is you want and be faithful! Feel free to leave me a comment and I will pray for you too.

For this project you are going to need the following items:

1 sheet of hardwood sanded plywood 1/4 cat

1 piece of spruce pine furring strip 1in X 3in X 8ft.

1 piece of spruce pine furring strip 1in X 1.5in X8ft.

table saw

short screws, drill

nails and nail gun

paint & paint pen

The great thing about this project is, it isn’t intimidating and something you can easily create! Yay! I shopped at Lowe’s for my supplies. I had them cut the sheet of plywood into 8 sections right there in the store! If you already know your measurements, I really recommend this because it saves you the hassle! Once you’re home, measure the length of the 1″x 3″pine to 25″x25″ and cut using a table saw. We didn’t angle the corners, but that is an option if you’re going for a more intricate look. Connect your wood frame using nails and your nail gun. Two in each corner, for a total of 16 altogether should do the trick. Using the smaller strip of pine, cut 4 pieces into about 20″ strips. Secure these to the edge of each piece of the frame using your short screws and drill. This will create a backing for the plywood to rest on.

Since your plywood is already cut and ready to go, simply paint it your desired color. In my case, I painted it white using a and gave it a good two coats. Once it was dry, I printed out the words and traced it onto the plywood. To fill the letters in, I used a black paint pen. I have kind of had a love/hate relationships with paint pens. I’ve used them in the past and they just splatter everywhere, completely ruining my work. So, I was super skeptical to use it for this project, but I took my time and I really like specific pen I used. It is made by and works like a charm!

Once you’re done hand painting your quote, allow plenty of drying time. You don’t want to mess up your beautiful piece of art!! Since the frame is made to fit the plywood perfectly, simply slide it into place and voila, it’s a masterpiece 😉 At least I think so!

I’m so happy with how simple and sweet this sign is! It has found its home in my office, where I catch myself staring at it and smiling, often! I have this beauty for sale in my Etsy shop too, if you’re interested in purchasing one!

Thanks for stopping by, have a wonderful week!!

Why hello there! Am I the only one or does it totally feel like this month is flying by? Gee whiz, Easter is right around the corner! I love working on projects for Easter time, it’s so much fun! Making adorable banners might be my favorite part though 😉

If you’re following me on Instagram, you might remember me sharing the little bunny banner I’m sharing with you today for my Easter mantel! It was a simple banner to make, but I just love the character and simplicity! It’s been a real treat for me to step out of my norm and decorate with pink! My bunny banner showcases light pink bunnies with cotton tails! How sweet is it? Eek!

Chair makeover for the beginner!

February 23, 2015 by Fotini Filed Under: 2015, diy, home decor 20 Comments

I still haven’t decided whether Craigslist is my friend or enemy… Kidding, totally kidding! I scour my local Craigslist frequently in search of reasonably priced, sometimes free, furniture in need of a little love! It’s truly amazing what a little paint and new fabric can do to a piece!
