Hi! Thanks for stopping by today! Today I’m excited to share with you a rather simple way to add character to a small bathroom! We created a faux planked wall and I love what it adds to our small half bath that gets used the most in our house.
First thing first, we headed to Home Depot to check out different wood options for what we were wanting to do. We found 1/8 inch pine wood that came as 4’x8′ sheets. We needed two sheets and we had them cut it there to make it a little easier, into 6 inch strips. We had 13 of them. I’ve included a picture to show just how thin these are, so it’s not bulky on the wall, especially in a small space. Once we were home we measured the length of the wall again, top to bottom, and this is really important to do because most walls are not even. Ours was wider at the top. We made any necessary cuts and numbered each plank on the back. I sanded all sides of each plank to give them a softer edge. Once everything was measured and ready we began nailing them into the wall.
I filled in all the nail holes with wood putty and let dry. Then I sanded everything really good. We used Behr white trim paint and painted one good coat and let dry. I continued an additional two coats. I’ve included a picture to show the wall before we caulked the corners to give it a polished look.
I’m so very pleased with how this wall turned out and it’s the perfect addition to our little half bath! It adds the perfect amount of farmhouse charm to our home! So, what do you think?

It turned out great and adds so much character! Something to think about though is that you actually did plank your wall so it is not faux. Faux would mean you made it look like you planked it but you really did not say like using board and batten wall paper. Again looks great!

Thank you! I guess I was going more for the “faux” as in they aren’t original planks, we created a plank using the sheet pine. But I appreciate the criticism 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!

Looks awesome! I just may duplicate your exact plan! Can you give me an idea of the cost for the wood? Thanks for sharing!
Fotini says
Yes! It was approx.$50 for the wood, all other supplies we already had!

Oh I’m so inspired! I love it. I’m trying to decide between planked walls & board & batten to personalize our new home. This turned out lovely & economical too.

Thank you! Yes, I love the simplicity of the project, but all the character it adds! Best of luck to you and your new home design!

Would you possibly know the item # that you bought at Home Depot so that I could make sure I buy the same thing. Knowing me, I’d get to HD, look all around the lumber aisel, get overwhelmed and leave if I didn’t know I was getting the right thing. Thanks so much!

Judy, I will try to find my receipt and look it up that way 😉 I will let you know!!
