DIY Metallic Jewelry Plate

February 24, 2014 by Fotini Filed Under: diy, gift idea, home decor, jewelry plate

If you’re like me, your jewelry ends up in a pile on your dresser, or even in my case, on top of my jewelry armoire. I have a few statement pieces that I wear just about all the time! A sweet mix of rose gold, gold and silver. I like to keep them easily accessible for when I’m getting ready quickly I can just grab them and go! I wanted a convenient place for them to rest when I wasn’t wearing them without being in the way, so after seeing a few different  projects on Pinterest, I created something of my own!

I bought a plain ceramic plate from the dollar store and used my gold and silver metallic Sharpies I already had. The fun thing about this project is you can design it however you want! I decided I wanted mine to say “hello beautiful” ๐Ÿ™‚ The fun thing about using the markers, is if you mess up, you can quickly wipe it off and try again! I completed the look by adding some polka dots! Bake your plate in a pre-heated oven at 350 for 30 minutes. Let cool completely and enjoy!

I am so pleased with how darling it is, and it’s just perfect for all my favorite pieces I wear so often! I also think this would make the perfect gift idea, especially for a bridal shower, personalizing it with her married name!

DIY Floral Crown

February 17, 2014 by Fotini Filed Under: diy, DIY floral crown, floral crown, flowers, photo shoot 24 Comments

When it comes to being the “belle of the ball”, there’s nothing better than an incredibly feminine floral crown! I wanted to create one for my little princess to wear for a photo shoot last Fall and I thought I would share the simple tutorial with you all so you can give it a try too!!
I bought a cheap greenery vine from the dollar store. The base of it was a brown wired piece that I used for the base of the crown. I measured it around my daughter’s head, cut, wrapped the ends and used the hot glue gun to glue into place. For the flowers, you can use this technique with any flowers, or a mixture! I opted for baby’s breath! Cut short lengths of the flowers and glue them into place starting in the middle of the crown. Work your way around the sides, alternating the direction in which you lay the flowers. This will prevent it looking bare in some spots. Try to use blooms that are similar in size for proportion. Continue this technique until you’re happy with the result!
Our photo shoot was the following day so to store the crown, dampen a paper towel and lightly wrap it around the flowers and store in a large ziploc bag and store in the refrigerator.
These are perfect for photo shoots, Weddings, birthday parties and more! I can’t wait to make another one for my little princesses birthday!!

Fab Pins of the Week

February 14, 2014 by Fotini Filed Under: black and gold, decor, diy, fab pins of the week, glitter, home decor, Pinterest, sparkle 3 Comments

Happy Friday and Happy Valentine’s Day!!!
I hope you have a wonderful day full of smiles, laughs and best of all LOVE
Here’s a few things I’m loving right now…

1. source   2. source
3. source   4. source

1. I’ve really been intrigued by the black, white and gold color combo lately! And it’s no wonder why this adorable decor caught my eye, it’s so bold! It’s a super sweet addition to a classy office or teenage girls room!
2. Invite your guests to your next get together in style! These particular invitations are for a bridal shower, but can be used for any occasion! I think they’re adorable, but then again, I have a slight obsession with glitter so I might just be biased ๐Ÿ˜‰
3. What a cute way to add some bling to your decor! Whether it be in your office or even adding a little decor to your closet. This little gem comes from an adorable Etsy shop where you an purchase it, and/or others, to add to your space!
4. I am really in love with this color scheme for a party or bridal shower! The sparkle adds the perfect touch of class. The pops of color with the fresh flowers make this look complete!

A Little Coat of Paint…

January 27, 2014 by Fotini Filed Under: chairs, diy, home decor, whitewashed furniture, whitewashing 14 Comments

Lately, I’ve been really into the look of whitewashed furniture. Though, I didn’t have any pieces of my own, I wanted to give it a try! I had a mismatched chair that we had at our dining room table that was in need of a pick-me-up. Inevitably, this was my next project!
I took the chair to our basement, which is a work in progress itself, so it was the perfect place to work on this project! I began with a 120 grit sandpaper to finely take off the top layer and smooth any imperfections the chair may have had. This is an old chair! Most of the original nails have been replaced with screws, but it does have one existing original nail, how cool is that!  The best advice I could give you for using the whitewashing technique is to do small areas at a time and be patient! Depending on the size of your piece, it may take you awhile to complete.
Simply begin by applying a few brush strokes of paint in a thin layer and let dry a few minutes. I just used paper towel because I had plenty of it on hand and could easily grab new pieces when needed. You could also use a white cloth of some sort, if desired. After 2-3 minutes of the paint drying, begin to wipe it away, moving back and forth in one direction. Continue until the desired finish is achieved. I recommend doing the entire piece with one coat first, and going back to do a second coat, or even third, to achieve the look you’re going for. Let the piece dry completely.
I completed this project using Miss Mustard Seed Furniture Wax. What I love about this product is it brings out the original wood so it gives the chair a truly aged look. Not to mention, I adore what a smooth finish it leaves!
