Bunny on the Front Porch

April 14, 2014 by Fotini Filed Under: diy, Easter, front porch decor, home 3 Comments

When I was a little girl I distinctly remember a life size bunny that my Nana would always have on the front porch at Easter time. When I grew up and had my own children, my Nana gave me that bunny! I have to admit, the last few years it’s been sitting in the back of the basement because I felt it just didn’t “fit” in with my Easter decor. So, this year I decided to change that and give this memorable bunny a makeover!
I started by covering him with a coat of Country Chic Paint in Cheesecake. I did two coats to cover the existing designs that were there. I love this paint and can’t wait to use it again! It coats wood so amazingly! I let the piece dry overnight. The next morning I grabbed a pencil and begin to trace out a new face and “welcome” sign. One thing I wish I would of payed more attention to was the detail of his face, because it was so cute before! But, I am happy with how it turned out! Next, I grabbed my acrylic paint in navy, black and pink and began to bring this bunny back to life! Lastly, I embellished his next with a sweet quatrafoil gray and white ribbon.

My kids just love it and that’s all that matters to me! We have enjoyed having the bunny on the porch this Easter, and will enjoy it for many more Easter’s to come!
Thanks so much for stopping by and checking out this project with me!

Here Comes Peter Cottontail….

April 7, 2014 by Fotini Filed Under: crafts, diy, Easter, Easter banner, home decor, Petter Cottontail, Spring 16 Comments

Easter is just two weeks away! In celebration, I made a darling little Peter Cottontail banner! What get’s you excited about projects you make? One of my favorite things, is creating something cute for very little money! This banner is one of those projects! I made this cutie for about $3! Join me as I share how 🙂
One of my favorite purchases I’ve made thus far in crafting is my silhouette machine. It’s amazing! I simply went to the online silhouette store, purchase the bunny design for $0.99, altered the size until I was happy with it and added some of the cute scrapbook paper from Target Dollar Spot. I had 10 done within just a couple minutes! Next, I typically use jute as my banner base. It matches all my neutral decor and I have tons of it! I work on my kitchen island, so I tape the jute into place and begin gluing the bunnies down using a heated glue gun. To finish it off, I added a single white pom pom to the tail of bunny and glued into place.
For such a simple project, a little time and a super small price tag, I was loving how it turned out! Thanks for stopping by and checking my Easter banner out! Have a great day 🙂

{ Silhouette Totes }

April 1, 2013 by Fotini Filed Under: crafts, diy, DIY crafts, Easter, Easter crafts, silhouette, silhouette totes, totes 22 Comments

Every year I buy the kids Easter baskets, and every year I end up tossing it instead of re-using it (for one reason or another!). I love the thoughts of using something they can actually get some use out of, so that led me to my next creation, silhouette totes! I would use these in place of an Easter basket on Easter morning. These totes will be perfect to take in the car and fill with books, snacks, games, etc.; or even great as an over night bag!

Out of my scrap fabric, I gathered two pieces that would have enough space for me to sketch and cut out a boy and girl silhouette. I used khaki for Christian and pink for Isabella. I found an image on the computer and free- handed it onto the fabric. Cut out. I bought linen totes from Jo Ann’s, they come as a three pack. I used some fabric glue that I already had and put it on the back of the fabric and pushed into place. Using a pencil, I wrote their names and traced over it with a permanent marker. I attempted using craft paint on one bag and didn’t like how it was turning out, that’s why I opted for the marker. It didn’t give me the desired look I was going for, but it works for now!
I have to admit a little something to you guys.. I didn’t like the way the fabric glue looked when it dried, so I washed the totes hoping it would wash away.. Well it didn’t, it shrunk and made the bags all wrinkly! I ironed and dried them the best I could, but nothing seemed to work! Needless to say, I know these bags will get dirty since I’m intending on them to get used often so I will revamp the idea for next year!
