Blueberry Stuffed French Toast Recipe + David Bromstad Designs + A Giveaway!!

August 21, 2014 by Fotini Filed Under: coffee creamer, Coffee-mate, David Bromstad, designer, french toast recipe, inspire, recipe-1, recipes, Target 8 Comments

Are you a coffee drinker? Let me tell you, it is my mode of survival! Without it, I’m no fun, ha! And with it this is how I feel…. “Given enough coffee I could rule the world”! Can you relate? I do, however, use creamer in my coffee, always have. So you can imagine I was pretty stoked when design star David Bromstad partnered with Coffee-mate and Target, making a splash with the limited edition bottles inspired my coffee and Coffee-mate. The new David Bromstad designed bottles (French Vanilla and Hazelnut flavors) will be available at Target stores nationwide! Why am I excited about that you say? Well, one I LOVE David Bromstad, have you seen the designs that man comes up with? Brilliant! And two, I’m a coffee freak (not to mention I’m Target obsessed), so this was basically a win-win for me!
It’s a lot of fun when you can become inspired by a product you use to think outside the box! Not only do I love coffee creamer in my coffee (French Vanilla is my favorite!), but I like to explore recipes with it too! I recently made an absolutely delicious french toast recipe using the French Vanilla creamer. My kids and husband just raved over it, so I will certainly be making it again!
Here’s the recipe:
Coffee-mate coffee creamer, flavor desired
3 large eggs
vanilla
cinnamon
sliced bread
butter
syrup
blueberries (optional)
Start by cracking your eggs into a bowl. Mix in your coffee creamer, pouring just enough to thicken the mixture (about 2-4 tablespoons). Add a teaspoon of vanilla and a dash of cinnamon. Grab a fork and mix well. Heat your frying pan to medium heat and melt a little butter, dip your slice of bread covering both sides into the egg mixture and place it onto the heated pan. Cook until slightly brown on each side. This mixture was enough to make 7 slices of french toast. Grab your blueberries, rinse and place them in a small bowl. Grab a fork and begin to mash them up, add a little bit of water to create a syrup-y mixture. Place the blueberry syrup between two pieces of french toast. You can add a small amount of syrup on top or a little powered sugar. This breakfast is full of flavor and simple to make!
Can you believe a little coffee creamer inspired all that? For more inspired fun, snap a photo of the newly designed bottles and share it on Facebook with the hashtag #CMInspiresSweepsEntry for a chance to win a year’s worth of Coffee-mate, $500 Target GiftCards, and a signed print from David Bromstad!

Oh, Deer!

November 25, 2013 by Fotini Filed Under: Christmas decor, diy, DIY pillowcase, reindeer decor, Target 24 Comments

I’ve hopped on the bandwagon of the reindeer craze! If you’re part of it too, you’re going to LOVE this post! While shopping on one of my regular trips to Target, I spotted the cutest place mats for only $3.99! I snagged one really quick with every intention of turning it into a pillow!

Once I was home I had a good bit of canvas I had purchased for another projects from Lowe’s. I grabbed my place mat and traced onto the canvas, and cut out. Before sewing, lay the place mat reindeer face down onto the canvas, and sew the the top and sides, then turn inside so that the reindeer is now on the front and you have three seamless edges. Stuff the pillow and sew along the bottom and voila! An absolutely adorable pillow for under $5!!

{ Our Food Passport }

July 29, 2013 by Fotini Filed Under: date nights, family, family fun, family night ideas, family time, food passport, Google, local restaurants, notebook, restaurants, Target 21 Comments

A few weeks ago I pinned the cutest idea of making a food passport for date nights. Well, unfortunately we don’t get many of those at our house, ever, so I decided to make one family style!

I think this is an absolutely adorable idea instead of arguing where to eat, eliminating the ” I don’t cares”, “I don’t knows” and whatever else may come along the way! Just flip to a page and head to the spot listed!

I bought an adorable little notebook at Target and headed home to Google some restaurants we’ve been wanting to try! I wrote down the restaurant name, address, phone number, hours of operation, area of town and expected price ( $-$$, etc. ). We don’t eat out often, so I also included some of our favorite restaurants that the kids would already love! I created a small pouch in the back for stickers to “mark” the restaurant once we’ve eaten there.

This is such a simple project, but such a fun concept! With the age that our little Isabella is right now (terrible two’s) eating out can be a daunting experience, but I think this will create excitement and make it more enjoyable for everyone! Not to mention, trying some new places, meeting some new faces and exploring our beautiful city!

Heart- Shaped, Pomegranate Ice Cubes

January 23, 2013 by Fotini Filed Under: fruit filled ice cubes, pomegranate, Target, Valentines 24 Comments

Looking for a fun, easy pick-me-up to liven up your water? How about these adorable pomegranate, heart-shaped ice cubes! These are so simple to make and the technique can be used for many occasions!

I found my silicon heart- shaped tray at the Target dollar corner, 2 for $1. And, I don’t think I had ever touched a pomegranate in my life, so I was looking forward to trying them… They’re such a beautiful fruit!

Cut open your pomegranate and take out all the seeds. Fill your trays with water, drop your pomegranate seeds into the water ( I filled them up!), and place in the freezer. Allow enough time for the water to freeze, and pop ice out of the trays and add to a cold glass of water or spritzer!

Voila, how adorable is that?!

Up-cyled Play kitchen

September 11, 2012 by Fotini Filed Under: Bejamin Moore, chalkboard, diy, fun for kids, furniture, kids play kitchen, paint, Target, upcyle 36 Comments

I’ve just fell in love with the adorable play kitchens I’ve been seeing all over Pinterest this past year. So, I had the itch to make one for my babies ( along with my hubbies help of course!) This is such a great way to up-cyle that unwanted piece of furniture you no longer need. Whether it be a bookshelf, nightstand, armoire, tv stand, etc! In our case, my Mother-in-law and Father-in-law gave us a media stand (he built it in the 90’s by the way!!) and I knew it would be perfect!
We headed to Andersons and bought Benjamin Moore’s paint in Cumulus Cloud. This is such a gorgeous color! It’s a light gray with a hint of brown, which goes with our decor! I opted for a light color so I could make it ‘pop‘ with the accessories!
Here’s what your going to need for this project:
  • Piece of furniture to up-cyle (as suggested above)
  • Preferred paint
  • Chalkboard paint
  • Circular saw
  • Bowl for sink
  • Caulk/Silicon
  • Scrap wood
  • Wood glue
  • Brushed nickel (or chrome) spray paint
  • 4 knobs/handles
  • Scrap fabric
  • Glue gun, fabric glue, velcro
We did not prime our wood because the paint we bought had a primer already in it! This saved us a little bit of time 🙂 Start by removing any doors and hardware and set aside. My husband used a circular saw to cut a whole the size of the bowl we chose for the sink. He used a heavy duty caulking to attach the bowl. I bought all the supplies (bowl, small tins, silverware and chalk from Target dollar corner!). Let the caulk dry completely. We put two thick coats of paint on the entire piece. I couldn’t be more happy with this color!! While the paint was drying, my husband used scrap wood we already had and began to cut two “J’s” for the faucet and a rectangular piece for the faucet to rest on. He glued the “J’s” together with wood glue and and clamped together until dry. I layed out a piece of cardboard and begin to prime all the hardware, faucet and pieces. After the primer was dry, I used Kyrlon’s Satin Nickel spray paint, two even coats on all the pieces.
Once the cabinet piece we were using as the oven was dry we taped it off and begin to spray it with chalkboard paint. I would recommend two or three light coats of this (follow directions on bottle). We grabbed the two cabinet pieces we were using as the refrigerator doors and sprayed the handles with the satin nickel spray paint as well. We let everything dry completely overnight. The next morning we were excited to get this piece finished, and so were the kids!
We began to reassemble all the cabinets and hardware. We had extra knobs from when we moved into our house that we decided to use. The faucet knobs were yellow and white gingham, so cute! We still needed fabric for the “curtain’s” so we headed to Hobby Lobby and I let my son pick out a piece of scrap fabric he liked. We ended finding a super cute, scrolly design in ivory and orange. It was $2.69 for a 1/2 yard. I also picked up a roll of Velcro to attach to the fabric and cabinet. Once we were back home, I cut the fabric and used fabric glue to secure the loose ends. I used the same fabric glue to attach a piece of the Velcro directly to the fabric, and let dry. Heat your glue gun attach the other piece of Velcro together, and glue the backing generously. Attach this directly to the wood of your kitchen, pressing down until dry. There was enough extra fabric to use as a “dish towel” for the kids to play with!
Just add your accessories and your done! I bought two teal tins for $1 each from Target. One holds the chalk and the other holds utensils. I scored a wire rack from goodwill for .34 cents and spray painted it yellow gold. We also had some play food to add to the fridge, but plan to get more!
This was such a fun project to finish! The kids will have a blast playing with it this Fall/Winter!
The total cost for this project was well under $10 for us. Note, we used a lot of things we already had!

{ Pantry Accessories and a Yummy Recipe }

August 30, 2012 by Fotini Filed Under: dollar corner, organzing, pantry accessories, puppy chow, recipe-1, recipes, sweet treat, Target 18 Comments

I just can’t stay away from the dollar corner at Target, it’s dangerous, haha! Today I got six small natural box crates for my pantry $1 each, alphabet stamps $1 and alphabet stickers $1. I have lots of odds and ends in my pantry floating around, so I figured these little storage containers would be perfect! I already had stamp ink at home in silver, so I stamped each container depending on its’ contents. So far I have, candy, oatmeal, and misc. I have three leftover for when I organize my pantry ( I plan on doing this soon!!). Here’s how it looks!

Speaking of dangerous, here’s a recipe I remember so well from my childhood… Puppy chow. My Nana used to make it in the summer’s for us to munch on, and I haven’t had it since. I had all the ingredients for it, so I got the urge to give it a try!

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 9 cups rice cereal (Chex)
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 cup chocolate chips ( I used 3 Hersey’s bars because that’s what I had!)
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • large gallon zip-lock bag

Start off by adding the butter, peanut butter and chocolate to a microwave safe bowl and microwave for one minute. Once melted, add 1/2 teaspoon vanilla and mix well. Add your 9 cups of rice cereal to the mixture and stir until cereal is completely coated. Put your 3 cups of powdered sugar in a gallon zip-lock bag, add cereal mixture, and shake, shake, shake!! That’s it….Tastes just like I remember, yummy!

DIY Birthday Onesie!

April 26, 2012 by Fotini Filed Under: arts and crafts, birthday onesie, birthday outfit, diy, diy onesie, fabric, first birthday, Isabella, Jo Ann Fabrics, no sew glue, personalized, Target 75 Comments

I love the thoughts of getting Isabella a super cute outfit for her birthday, but I don’t like the thoughts of paying a pretty-penny for an outfit she will only wear once. So, here is my solution, make your own!

First, I went to Target and bought a four pack of short sleeve white onesies. Then, I went to Jo Ann Fabrics and chose a fabric. Let me tell you, you will probably get a little overwhelmed because there are so many beautiful fabrics to chose from! The easiest way to eliminate choices is to keep the party theme in mind. In my case, Isabella’s first birthday party is a Vintage- chic theme featuring brown, pink and silver. After narrowing it down, I had made my choice! You will only need a very little amount for this project, but I went ahead and bought a half of a yard. ( I will use it {somehow} at her party!)

If you’re not much a sew-er, like me, be sure to grab some “No- sew, no heat glue”. Works like a charm! Also, make sure you have a good pair of shearing scissors.

Once I got home, I played around on Word with different fonts until I found a number “1” I liked, and made it big enough to accommodate the onesie. Print it out, and then cut it out.

OK, so here is where experience, or lack there of, come handy! I’ve done very little (if any) projects like this, so it didn’t dawn on me until after it was too late… Once you cut out your number, turn you fabric over, back side facing you and trace your number. Here is where I messed up… **Tip** you need to also turn your number backwards in order for it to come out correctly once you’ve cut it out. The first time I traced my number, cut it out, flipped it around (fabric/design side facing me) and the number was backwards, darn! No biggy, I got plenty of fabric, and I was able to perfect my number a little more.

THE backwards mess-up!

Grab your onesie, number and no-sew glue. Before gluing, place and eye the number about where you want it to lay. Then flip the fabric over glue along the sides and middle and gently push onto the onesie. Wipe away any excess glue that leaks out. Let dry for at least an hour. And you’re done!! This can be a super simple way to do sooo many different, personalized things for your kids!

Here’s how mine turned out 🙂

** Update: This item should be handwashed only!! Even though the no sew glue states it’s washable, I didn’t find that to be successful!
