Spooky, Chic Halloween Mantel

October 8, 2020 by Fotini Filed Under: 14 meals, 16, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 25 Days of Christmas, 27 West & Co., 4th of July, diy, Halloween

Boo! Tis’ the season to get extra spooky! To embrace your fun & out-of-the norm design styles that you may fall into on a daily basis.

Today I’m sharing my spooky, chic halloween mantel with you all & I must say I had SO much fun with this! It was a special request from my daughter to decorate, more than we normally do, for halloween this year! Without hesitation I said YES!

For the design, I wanted to incorporate black as the bold, stark focal point. I found these paper bats from Target & unfortunately they are no longer available, but you can find similar [ here, here & here]. We just began sticking them on the wall in a curved manner. I love how it turned out!

Next, we started with a clean slate on the mantel. I wanted to add my favorite mercury glass pieces, old books, dried hydrangeas, fake spider webs & my baby boo pumpkins! Oh, and for fun we added mini black witch hats!

Here’s what we came up with…

If you follow along on Instagram, you may have participated in the poll last week, of me asking if I should decorate a halloween tree. I did this a few years back too, you can click here to see that post.

I am so happy with how this little spooky tree turned out! Almost all items used came from the dollar store! We used things like fake spider webs, skull ornaments, glow-in-the-dark witch fingers, sparkly ornaments & a witch hat as the tree topper!

We had so much fun with this design! Soon we will be decorating the porch for halloween, so stay tuned for that!

Friday Favorites #61

Welcome to Friday Favorites #61! I am SO happy it’s finally Friday! Can you believe Halloween is already next week? I can’t! My daughter is going as a spooky witch & my son is going as Bob Ross! I can’t wait to dress them up. It’s my favorite thing about Halloween!

If you follow me on Instagram, you probably read my post from the other day about the chaos we’ve been having around our house this week. Last weekend while we had our October Market at our storefront, we found that someone had abandoned a sweet kitty on our property. He was nearly dead, weak & in horrible condition. My mom was able to keep him in her warm office & feed him. He came & went as he wanted, but we couldn’t stand the thoughts of him getting killed by the buys road, so we brought him home!

In bringing him home, we also brought fleas. And let me tell you… I am NOT a bug person. I gave him a couple really good baths & seemed to get rid of them, but come to find out, the other animals picked them up! So, needless to say, in doing our good deed of helping the little guy out, we’ve exposed the others to those pesky irritants. Ok, rant over. We’ll get rid of them, we’ve taken all of the measures to kill them off! And our rescue kitty is well on his way to recovery!

Since Halloween is just in a few days, we’re doing a little Halloween inspiration this week! I hope you enjoy!

Spook-tacular Neutral Halloween Mantel

October 18, 2016 by Fotini Filed Under: fall, home decor 2 Comments

When it comes to decorating for Halloween, you’ve heard me say before, I opt for less spooky options. And that’s just a personal preference! I’m not really into the terrifying, gory decor. Today I’m sharing with you my spook-tacular neutral Halloween mantel, and this is about as spooky as it gets, haha.

As always, I have incorporated some of my favorite elements, such as, mercury glass, eucalyptus and candle light!

Pumpkins on the porch!

October 10, 2016 by Fotini Filed Under: fall, home decor

Hello lovely! How are you today? I’m hoping that as you read this post, it finds you well and looking forward to a beautiful day! Things have been busy around here, to say the least! Instead of complaining about it, I tend to find the best in every situation! I’m very blessed for being as busy as I am and also continue to enjoy every minute of the chaos!

With that said, I’ve been slightly behind on decorating the house for Halloween. As mentioned in the past, I don’t go overboard, or the spooky route when it comes to decorating for Halloween. I try to keep it subtle and tasteful! Today I have the pleasure of sharing ‘pumpkins on the porch‘ with you! It’s my first take at a soft front porch decorated for early October!

DIY Trick OR Treat Flag

October 26, 2015 by Fotini Filed Under: diy 1 Comment

Can you believe trick or treat is just in a few days? My little ones are pretty excited about it, and since I’ve decorated some for the Halloween this year, I wanted to make a little garden flag to match the decor. I asked you all if you were interested in the little “Hello Fall” garden flag I shared on my front porch design, so here it is! The same technique I used…

While at one of my shopping trips to Target dollar spot, I spotted a burlap table runner for $3. I snagged it, because how could you pass that up 😉 Once I was home I knew it was the perfect material for a garden flag. The width was right and the edges are sewn, so no fraying!! To begin, simply fold over about two inches of burlap, creating a loop for hanging. Using a hot glue gun, add glue dots the entire length, and push into place. Garden flags tend to be about 18 inches in length, so you can measure or eye it, but cut any excess burlap off. Next, using your desired stencils, grab a foam brush and black chalk paint. (This paint weathers so well outside, I’m impressed!). You may also want to grab an old magazine or newspaper to place under your burlap while you stencil, so it doesn’t get messy! Dab a very light about of paint onto your stencil using your foam brush. You don’t want to create any running, and you can always add more if needed! Continue this for the remaining letters. For this flag I used “trick or treat”. The chalk paint dries rather quickly, so it’s great for this project! For the bottom of your burlap, which is the part you cut, begin to pull a strand of burlap off each layer, creating a frayed bottom. I do this because I like how it looks, but you don’t have to! Now, you could really be done here, because that’s basically the entire project! Isn’t that fun and EASY!!

I normally don’t decorate for Halloween, but this year my little ones have convinced me to, and I’m very pleased with how my non-traditional chic Halloween mantel turned out!
