Customized Stenciled Sign

November 9, 2015 by Fotini Filed Under: diy, home decor

Hello friends! To some I may be known as the crazy sign lady… What? No, no one has ever called me that! 😉 But, I love signs… I love making signs. Can you ever have enough of them? When the opportunity came up to work with Wall Masque stencil company, they told me they had a customized stencil option. I hopped on that like a hot cake, that is right up my alley!

The process for submitting a custom design was rather simple. I created an image using PicMonkey and sent it to them. Within minutes, I had a response that my design had been accepted, and I received my stencil a couple of days later! I opted for “farmhouse chic hardware co.” because it’s so fitting to our household! Of course my blog is Farmhouse Chic, but my husband also builds custom farmhouse tables, so it was a no brainer!

To begin, my husband took three narrow pallet planks and screwed them to a small piece of plywood. I sanded the wood down for a smooth consistency. Next, grab your stencil and tape into place. Using a take your desired paint and blot over the stencil. I used . It’s my go-to for projects! Don’t get paint happy, use a small amount so it doesn’t create puddling, you can always go back over it if needed. Remove your stencil while the paint is still wet! I allowed my sign to dry completely, and I roughed it up very little using a sanding block. To finish, I sprayed with with a matte clear coat. We hung that pretty up and just love it <3

DIY Trick OR Treat Flag

October 26, 2015 by Fotini Filed Under: diy 1 Comment

Can you believe trick or treat is just in a few days? My little ones are pretty excited about it, and since I’ve decorated some for the Halloween this year, I wanted to make a little garden flag to match the decor. I asked you all if you were interested in the little “Hello Fall” garden flag I shared on my front porch design, so here it is! The same technique I used…

While at one of my shopping trips to Target dollar spot, I spotted a burlap table runner for $3. I snagged it, because how could you pass that up 😉 Once I was home I knew it was the perfect material for a garden flag. The width was right and the edges are sewn, so no fraying!! To begin, simply fold over about two inches of burlap, creating a loop for hanging. Using a hot glue gun, add glue dots the entire length, and push into place. Garden flags tend to be about 18 inches in length, so you can measure or eye it, but cut any excess burlap off. Next, using your desired stencils, grab a foam brush and black chalk paint. (This paint weathers so well outside, I’m impressed!). You may also want to grab an old magazine or newspaper to place under your burlap while you stencil, so it doesn’t get messy! Dab a very light about of paint onto your stencil using your foam brush. You don’t want to create any running, and you can always add more if needed! Continue this for the remaining letters. For this flag I used “trick or treat”. The chalk paint dries rather quickly, so it’s great for this project! For the bottom of your burlap, which is the part you cut, begin to pull a strand of burlap off each layer, creating a frayed bottom. I do this because I like how it looks, but you don’t have to! Now, you could really be done here, because that’s basically the entire project! Isn’t that fun and EASY!!

Simple DIY Banner

October 18, 2015 by Fotini Filed Under: diy, fall 28 Comments

Hey you! It’s great to have you here today! I’m excited to tell you I’m apart of a fun little link up called “Home for Fall”! In this link up, you will find all Fall inspired projects! I hope you’re ready to get inspired because there are a lot of great projects for you to check out, share and pin for later! Head over to Hometalk and use the hashtag #homeforfall for all these amazing projects!

Fall

The project I’m sharing is a simple DIY banner that literally takes just minutes to make!

You’re going to use two ripped or unwanted book pages. Cut the edges and bottoms off, so all that’s showing is the wording. It’s going to be a rectangle, cut that in half. Now you have four pieces total. Stack them together and cut that in half, now you have 8 pieces. Grab one stack of four and fish tail the bottoms, do for the remaining four also.

Using a hot glue gun, put two glue dots on the back corners and push into place on your jute. Leave about an inch in between each book page; continue for the remainder. Leave nearly 5 inches on each end of the banner for hanging purposes, and that’s it! Can you believe how easy that was!!

It’s the perfect addition to my chalkboard in my office! I am obsessed with it’s simplicity <3

Early Fall Mantel

September 14, 2015 by Fotini Filed Under: diy, fall 10 Comments

Hey you, welcome! I’m so happy you’re here hanging out with me this morning! It’s beginning for feel more like Fall here in Ohio… The temps are crisp in the mornings and evenings and it’s got me so excited for them to stick around!

Today I’m excited to share with you my early Fall mantel. It isn’t anything over-the-top. It’s very simple and clean, and I love it! I have had a major obsession with silver dollar eucalyptus lately. It is just so beautiful and whimsy, I can’t get enough of it! It pairs perfectly with white and blue pumpkins, which I’m also obsessed with this time of year. I’m a firm believer that using books as “fillers” in design, is one of the best things ever! I love incorporating books, as often as possible. It just makes the space look and feel cozy, instantly.

You know, I love making book page banners too, so this one is a glitter F A L L banner; super simple. Check out my banner from last Fall here! I will have these adorable glitter Fall banners for sale at the Zassy’s Fall Barn Sale October 1-3, and also for purchase in my Etsy shop, soon!

The Windsor Bench

August 31, 2015 by Fotini Filed Under: diy, home decor 13 Comments

Hello friend! It’s great to have you here today! It was a beautiful weekend that consisted of lots of laughs, dreamy weather and a little farm market that had pumpkins!! As you can imagine, I was ecstatic about that! I have been busy preparing for the barn show I will be a part of the first of October ( I will share more about that later!). That has put me even more in the mood for Fall, because I’m making so many lovely Fall decor items! With that said, I finally finished the Windsor bench and I was eager to decorate it for Fall 🙂

A few months back while shopping at a local Antique Mall, I came across a really lovely, old black Windsor chair. I mean this thing was beautiful! I quickly looked at the price tag, only to be shocked it was $495! Say whaaat? Crazy stuff right there! I left, somewhat, broken hearted…
