Wildflowers

“Everything that slows us down and forces patience, everything that sets us back into the slow circles of nature, is a help. Gardening is an instrument of grace.” —May Sarton

This Spring, I chose to step outside my comfort zone and plant wildflower seeds. I love the plants I have planted around my yard throughout the years; but I bought them established. I went out on a whim and decided to purchase wildflower seeds on Amazon. [here & here]

I planted them in the flower beds around my house. I included a mix of potting soil, organic egg shells and the seeds in a bucket, mixed it up and poured into the dirt. My flowers took a little longer to grow than I imagined, but once they did, they started popping up all over the place!

There are so many different varieties of flowers! And I love that!! It’s exciting to see what’s going to bloom next. This past week, I clipped some of my stems and brought them inside to make an arrangement.

Here is the arrangement I made with flowers from the garden ❤️

I am going to continue to enjoy these this season for as long as I can. But, I have decided next year, I will plant twice as much to enjoy! I love having fresh flowers in my home!

A ‘pop’ of color on the porch!

Tell me I’m not the only one that notices the beautiful, or not-so beautiful front porches and landscaping while on a drive or walk through a neighborhood. I’m always looking and admiring the gorgeous flowers! If you’ve followed me for awhile, you know I’m flower obsessed 🙂

I wanted to dress up my front porch and create a fun, vibrant feel! My house has neutral tones (big shock, right!), so I was inspired to add a little color for Spring! I headed to Lowe’s where I was immediately drawn to the Monrovia Plants section. The bright purple salvia and calibrachoa were the first to steal my attention. I loaded up on a colorful mix of yellows, greens, purple and oranges!

DIY Flower Pots

April 13, 2015 by Fotini Filed Under: crafts, diy, home decor, Pinterest, Spring 2 Comments

Hi, so wonderful to have you! The weather around here has been beautiful, and I’m loving every minute of it! I’ve been planting tons of flowers! Each year I opt for a color pattern and specific flower, and this year I let the kids decide. They chose shades of purple pansies. I am really loving the color combination together! I will share some photos of our front landscaping another time. Until then, I’m sharing a fun little way to update some old flower pots you may have lying around!

Okay, so could this before pic be any more horrid, gracious! A few years back I bought these light yellow plastic pots at Target. They’ve done their job rightfully so by housing some beautiful blooms, but I just wasn’t feelin’ the color any more. I knew it was nothing a little spray paint couldn’t fix! But, not just any spray paint… Chalkboard spray paint! And yes, I know what you’re thinking… “she’s still into that chalkboard craze?” and the answer is YES, yes I am! The possibilities are endless and I love letting my imagination run wild.

I cleaned up the pots and began spraying an even coat of chalkboard spray paint on each pot. It’s important to let each coat of paint dry completely before applying the next. Once the first coat was dry, I applied a heavy second coat, and let dry. To activate the chalkboard effect, grab a piece of chalk and begin rubbing it over the entire piece. This is an important step not to skip! Wipe off using a lightly damp paper towel and you’re all set to go! I like the look of chalk roughed up, or rubbed on there, so that’s the look I went with!

I wrote “watch me grow” on one of the pots, pretty fitting, don’t you think? 😉 And please excuse our horrible looking deck. We still have yet to do anything with that mess! But, look at that.. Little Lola girl decided to pose with the new flower pots! She’s a fan of them, and I am too! I can’t wait to see and enjoy the beauty of them, and the flowers!

Thank you so much for stopping by!

Teacup Blooms

May 13, 2013 by Fotini Filed Under: diy, flowers, gifts, Mothers Day gifts, Pinterest, simple gifts, Spring, teacup gifts, teacups 3 Comments

I know for me, one of my favorite gifts is one I can continuously enjoy. This year for Mothers Day the kids made and decorated bird houses for our Nana and my mother in law, but I wanted to give a little something special! We were going to be hosting a bbq on Mothers Day and I wanted to have something to give each Mom, so I headed to the local thrift store in search for teacups! I scored 7 di-cut glass cups for $1.49, score!!! Next, I headed for the local garden center in search for flowers! I opted for an eye-catching, small bloom, cockscomb. They were bright, beautiful and dainty enough to fit perfectly into the cup!

To start, add a small amount of soil to the bottom of the cup, remove the flower and roots from container, hold into place and fill with soil. I pressed my down to eliminate loose soil and to keep the plant in place. Water each day, making sure the soil is moist. I sat mine on the kitchen window sill where it will get plenty of sun and I can enjoy it 🙂

For the gifts, I used a small tag and wrote “true love blossoms…”; I hope they enjoy watching this flower bloom all summer long!
