A Little Coat of Paint…

January 27, 2014 by Fotini Filed Under: chairs, diy, home decor, whitewashed furniture, whitewashing 14 Comments

Lately, I’ve been really into the look of whitewashed furniture. Though, I didn’t have any pieces of my own, I wanted to give it a try! I had a mismatched chair that we had at our dining room table that was in need of a pick-me-up. Inevitably, this was my next project!
I took the chair to our basement, which is a work in progress itself, so it was the perfect place to work on this project! I began with a 120 grit sandpaper to finely take off the top layer and smooth any imperfections the chair may have had. This is an old chair! Most of the original nails have been replaced with screws, but it does have one existing original nail, how cool is that!  The best advice I could give you for using the whitewashing technique is to do small areas at a time and be patient! Depending on the size of your piece, it may take you awhile to complete.
Simply begin by applying a few brush strokes of paint in a thin layer and let dry a few minutes. I just used paper towel because I had plenty of it on hand and could easily grab new pieces when needed. You could also use a white cloth of some sort, if desired. After 2-3 minutes of the paint drying, begin to wipe it away, moving back and forth in one direction. Continue until the desired finish is achieved. I recommend doing the entire piece with one coat first, and going back to do a second coat, or even third, to achieve the look you’re going for. Let the piece dry completely.
I completed this project using Miss Mustard Seed Furniture Wax. What I love about this product is it brings out the original wood so it gives the chair a truly aged look. Not to mention, I adore what a smooth finish it leaves!

Sharing this project on these fantastic blogs!

Fab Pins of the Week

January 24, 2014 by Fotini Filed Under: decor, fab pins of the week, fashion, gold, home, Pinterest, statement pieces, winter 1 Comment

Hey, hey it’s Friday!! I’m so glad you’re here and starting your weekend out with me 🙂
I have completely been crushing on gold lately! So that’s what I’m sharing this week! Let’s get to it!!

1. I adore wearing sweaters in Winter! This year I have a few really cute statement sweaters that are not only comfy and warm, but super adorable! However, I only have one sweater that has elbow patches, and it’s not this cute!! I don’t know what it is about elbow patches, but I love them â™¥ Especially these ones pictured, they’re sparkly! I have found numerous tutorials on Pinterest for adding your own elbow patches, I may make this an upcoming project 😉
2. This gold accent wall is fabulous! The perfect addition to this simple office. It also looks quite charming with the light grey wall next to it, which is perfect so you can mix metallics! I’m really, really into mixing metallics right now! Gold is making a come back, it’s no longer a thing of the past and I love it!
3. These pillows are fabulous!! They would be perfect in a feminine office and fantastic as a gift idea! These are available via an Etsy shop and she has a lot of darling, easily customizable pieces so be sure to check them out! I really love these, I see a DIY pillow cover post coming soon 😉
4. I need this clutch! My husband probably wouldn’t agree with that haha, by looking in my closet it doesn’t look like I need much of anything! But this is such a gorgeous statement piece! Especially paired with a solid outfit, it makes the perfect statement! I found some similiar here, here and here!

Fab Pins of the Week

January 17, 2014 by Fotini Filed Under: Black, claw foot tub, decor, fab pins of the week, home, Pinterest 2 Comments

Happy Friday!! Another week has flown by, do you feel that way too?
Looking forward to play-dates with friends, a little shopping, spending time with the fam and even my first jewelry party of 2014!
This week I’ve been inspired by bold, black accents in decor!

1. Feminine- classy, I look at this picture and am just drawn to it! I’m in love with the gallery wall, it’s fantastic! The sporadic black frames give the wall depth! This is the perfect look for my office. I love the light colored couch with bold animal print pillows, and I really love the velvet green- fabric chair! It’s so much fun!
2. Those floors are the bees-knees! But, I’m a total sucker for a claw-foot tub!! This beautiful, black claw-foot tub makes the entire bathroom! At some point in my life, I really hope to own a claw-foot tub. They are just gorgeous, I can’t even image!!
3. So pretty! I love the mix of gold and rose gold accents! The simple black picture frame, along with the black and white photo create a calming combination for this cute little bathroom! I love seeing things I typically wouldn’t put together, and they turn out cute, like this one!
4. I love the hot pink used in this office space! I am just dying to get to decorating my office! I don’t “have” it yet because our basement isn’t finished, but it’s coming soon! I love browsing ideas and gathering a bunch of inspiration!

Fab Pins of the Week

January 10, 2014 by Fotini Filed Under: bright colors, brights, home design, home office, Pinterest Leave a Comment

T.G.I.F! With two snow days to start the week, I feel like my week has been cut short, but I’m embracing the weekend despite it!
Any exciting plans for the weekend? I left the house decorated for Winter in general after taking my Christmas stuff down, but now I’m over it and spending the day taking that all down! Oh, the joys of decorating â™¥  ♥

Color is what has been inspiring me this week, so let’s get to it…

1. This gorgeous bright floral chair would be the perfect statement piece for my soon-to-be office! The variety of colors makes it easy to go with many colors! I’ve been torn on whether do decorate my office in pastels or brights. This chair has me thinking brights…. 🙂
2. I am really in love with accenting with gold! I love this beautiful matte gold table lamp! It’s the perfect touch to this desk, and I imagine the entire office! The charming, sleek design of this lamp is very flattering to any office and a must-have for mine!!
3. More gold accents! Picture frames and printables are a simple and super affordable way to add charm and class to your office space! Not to mention, you can change out the printables as often as you want! I love the pops of the bright pink post it notes in the back too! Such a simple concept, yet bold impact!
4. Fresh flowers!! Always a must… You can dress up any room just by adding fresh flowers! I love this sea foam blue glass, it makes the color of this gorgeous peony stand out even more! Imagine how perfect it would look on a beautiful white table!
