Isabella’s FIRST Birthday Party!

May 22, 2012 by Fotini Filed Under: birthday party, Cakes by bess, diy, Facebook, first birthday, ruffle cake, vintage chic birthday party 1 Comment

After a pretty smooth move Friday, we couldn’t wait to celebrate Isabella’s first birthday on Saturday! We woke up and started preparing for the day… I had already hung her banner a few days before and centered it! I bought all of the decorations for her party before we started working on the house, which was a HUGE relief to have out of the way. I started unpacking everything one- by – one. Placed the pink table cloth, centered the cake stand, placed the pictures I had prepared, etc!

Side note- – I love pictures and picture frames, so I knew I wanted to display a couple of pictures from her smash cake session a couple weeks before. I wanted white, vintage inspired frames, but the ones I was finding were too expensive. So, I was at Walmart for some odds and ends, and decided to browse the picture frames. They had a number of silver frames with different designs to choose from. From there, I bought Krylons white spray paint with primer. Went home, spray painted the frames, about three even coats, let dry and roughed the edges with a low grain sandpaper. Exactly the look I was looking for πŸ™‚

The adorable ruffle cakes, themselves, made for a beautiful center piece! “Cakes by Bess” created a large strawberry ruffle cake and matching smash cake, as well as, two dozen of delectable cupcakes! Please be sure to click on the link above to visit her facebook page and place an order for your next event!

I will feature a couple of tutorials for some of the decor I made, later this week!

Sneak Peeks :))

May 10, 2012 by Fotini Filed Under: family, friends, home owners, home renovation, laminate flooring, living room, sneak peeks 1 Comment

This is officially our last week as renters! We will be completely moved in by next Friday, May 18th!! I can’t believe it’s finally here, but I’m sure glad it is. It has been a very busy month renovating the house to get it move- in ready. The out pour of help from our family and friends continues to amaze us, and we couldn’t be luckier! I’ve had girlfriends and my mother- in- law helping me pack up and take as many boxes as possible to the new house! My plan is to move all boxes over this week, that way the only thing left is the large items on moving day!

Call me crazy, but I planned Isabella’s birthday party the day after we move in! What was I thinking?! Ha, I’m not quite sure.. But I know it will be so special to have our friends and family over to celebrate our little girls FIRST birthday in our new home:)

So, here are a couple of sneak peeks.. I don’t want to reveal everything yet!! I plan on doing side- by- side before and afters because the difference is huge!!

Our dark, brown stained stairs! Still have to paint the
white trim and backing, but they’re beautiful!!
Our living room floors are done!!!

A Pleasent Surprise – and – More Sneak Peeks!!

April 29, 2012 by Fotini Filed Under: amazing husband, loft, pleasant surprise, sneak peeks, stainless steel range hood Leave a Comment

This weekend has been amazing! We’re being blessed everyday, and couldn’t be more grateful! My husband has been putting in some major overtime to keep us on schedule. Yesterday, he finished all the painting upstairs. Which was a huge relief to me, because I felt like it was taking forever! He also surprised me by putting in Isabella’s chandelier in her room! I LOVE it πŸ™‚
Today, I spent the day painting all of the trim on the main floor. It was a lot more time consuming that I had thought it would be. But, I got a good amount of it done, and it looks great! My husband was re-installing toilets and putting in our new faucets! Everything is really starting to look put- together.

One project we were sort of dreading to do, was removing an above- range microwave from the previous owners. It was caked with grease and a huge eyesore. I was really wanting to put in a stainless range hood, but everyone I kept telling was saying it wasn’t possible since there wasn’t proper ventilation. I was really bummed, and hated the thoughts of spending a minimum of $300 for a new stainless range microwave. We removed the the microwave to find, a vent duct. Yes!!! We were so excited it was stupid, haha. So, I had to leave and check on the kids and Nana, and when I came back, my hubby had went and bought the stainless steel range hood we previously looked at!! He’s amazing πŸ™‚ And, he’s working on installing it tonight! I can’t wait to see how it looks, ekk!

I apologize for the terrible lighting, but it’s the best I could get.
This is probably my favorite room in the entire house! It is our loft area
embellished with gorgeous wood beams! This overlooks our main living room.
I can’t wait to show before and after pictures when everything is completed!
Isabella’s chandelier! So chic πŸ˜‰

DIY Birthday Onesie!

April 26, 2012 by Fotini Filed Under: arts and crafts, birthday onesie, birthday outfit, diy, diy onesie, fabric, first birthday, Isabella, Jo Ann Fabrics, no sew glue, personalized, Target 81 Comments

I love the thoughts of getting Isabella a super cute outfit for her birthday, but I don’t like the thoughts of paying a pretty-penny for an outfit she will only wear once. So, here is my solution, make your own!

First, I went to Target and bought a four pack of short sleeve white onesies. Then, I went to Jo Ann Fabrics and chose a fabric. Let me tell you, you will probably get a little overwhelmed because there are so many beautiful fabrics to chose from! The easiest way to eliminate choices is to keep the party theme in mind. In my case, Isabella’s first birthday party is a Vintage- chic theme featuring brown, pink and silver. After narrowing it down, I had made my choice! You will only need a very little amount for this project, but I went ahead and bought a half of a yard. ( I will use it {somehow} at her party!)

If you’re not much a sew-er, like me, be sure to grab some “No- sew, no heat glue”. Works like a charm! Also, make sure you have a good pair of shearing scissors.

Once I got home, I played around on Word with different fonts until I found a number “1” I liked, and made it big enough to accommodate the onesie. Print it out, and then cut it out.

OK, so here is where experience, or lack there of, come handy! I’ve done very little (if any) projects like this, so it didn’t dawn on me until after it was too late… Once you cut out your number, turn you fabric over, back side facing you and trace your number. Here is where I messed up… **Tip** you need to also turn your number backwards in order for it to come out correctly once you’ve cut it out. The first time I traced my number, cut it out, flipped it around (fabric/design side facing me) and the number was backwards, darn! No biggy, I got plenty of fabric, and I was able to perfect my number a little more.

THE backwards mess-up!

Grab your onesie, number and no-sew glue. Before gluing, place and eye the number about where you want it to lay. Then flip the fabric over glue along the sides and middle and gently push onto the onesie. Wipe away any excess glue that leaks out. Let dry for at least an hour. And you’re done!! This can be a super simple way to do sooo many different, personalized things for your kids!

Here’s how mine turned out πŸ™‚

** Update: This item should be handwashed only!! Even though the no sew glue states it’s washable, I didn’t find that to be successful!

More Sneak Peeks :)

April 25, 2012 by Fotini Filed Under: first home, half bath, home projects, home renovation, laundry room, renovation, sneak peeks, spray paint, tile, tile work 5 Comments

Things are moving right along with the house! It’s crazy, exciting to see it all come together. This entire time I’ve had a picture in my head of exactly what I want it to look like, and it’s coming true! I feel so blessed, and soo thrilled to make memories in our home πŸ™‚

Here are a few (of the many) projects we have going on right now! My dad is doing all of the tile work, he is a master at it πŸ˜‰ It looks fabulous!! He just did the grout last night and I have yet to see it, so I will update with pics later!

Last week, I posted on Facebook about tips on spray painting my door knobs/ levers. I was quickly encouraged not to take that on, and just buy new ones. Well, I already started the project, and I’m not one to give up, so I’m still moving forward with it! It’s not quite as easy as some of the tutorials I read, but I guess it’s trial and error. I have finished two completely, primer, paint and gloss, and they look great! I will share my final tutorial in coming days.

Downstairs half bath
Mud closet entry
Laundry room
Sanded and primed..

Thanks for looking, check back soon πŸ™‚

Family Photos for fall :)

October 17, 2011 by Fotini Filed Under: family pictures, photographer, Rose DeVore, September, Slate Run Metro Park Leave a Comment

In the month of September we got our family pics done at Slate Run Metro Park by our friend/amazing photographer, Rose DeVore. It was a gorgeous day, weather-wise and company-wise. My best friend Amanda came along with us to help make the kids smile and help out with our family dog, Lola… Our photog, Rose, had an incredible little scene set up for us under a tree! Despite discussing colors, everything we wore as a family and props she included, all matched.. it was perfect!

I love capturing my childrens’ moments on camera, it’s soo special to look back on! To be honest, I would love to get the kids’ pictures taken once a month, haha, they change so quickly, I want to cherish every new quality, look and feature of them!
Pictures capture a special moment, memories last a lifetime….

What a blessing!

July 4, 2011 by Fotini Filed Under: baby, big brother, family, future, little sister, May

So, I haven’t wrote since I gave birth to Isabella… She was born on May fourth in the evening! She was born alert and interested in everything going on around her! She is the BEST baby πŸ™‚ She rarely cries, and is getting her little personality already! She is definetly going to be a daddy’s girl <3 She really responds to his voice and smiles at him constantly when he’s around her πŸ™‚ It’s hard to believe it’s already been two months.. In a sense it makes me sad because it has gone by so quickly, the next two months will fly by just as quick. They really don’t stay babies for long! We are trying to enjoy every single minute of it!!

Christian is an awesome big brother and very proud of his little sister. And, Isabella is very interested in him. She really listens to him and watches everything he does. I can’t wait for our family to make beautiful memories together πŸ™‚ I’m soooo very excited for what the future holds for our family πŸ™‚

She has a name!

January 14, 2011 by Fotini Filed Under: Buy Buy Baby, children, family traditions, Isabella, Victoria 1 Comment

Choosing a name was very important to me, but equally important to my husband, Reuben. Important to each of us for different reasons.. When we named our son, his middle name, Keaton, was named after my grandfather. Reuben wanted to continue the trend of naming our child after family, but he didn’t have anyone specific in mind. I was really keen to the first name Isabella and would ask Reuben often for
his opinion! Finally, we both agreed upon Isabella for her first name, but still unsure about the middle name.

Even though this will sound like somewhat of a cliche, we decided on the middle name when we were shopping at Buy Buy Baby. We were both crazy about Victoria, but not sure it sounded good together.. We were shopping around the store looking at bedroom furniture when we came across adorable, handcrafted toy chests. The two on display were, Isabella and Victoria. And then our decision was made! Isabella Victoria πŸ™‚ The significance of the Victoria, related to family would be Reuben’s mom, Vickie.

We couldn’t be more happy with our decision and are anxiously awaiting the arrival of our gorgeous baby girl!

Do you have any standards or family traditions you go by when naming your children?!
