Bergère antique table

June 26, 2017 by Fotini Filed Under: diy

It’s a beautiful thing, really, when you have family scouting garage sales with you in mind! Tell me that doesn’t speak volumes about the wonderful support I have from my family!

It was a Saturday afternoon and I received a text from my Aunt with this adorable antique table she scored for only $12! A couple days after she dropped it off, I started working on it! It was already painted white and we all know WHITE is my color, but the paint job was a little rough… Oh, and I had bought some new colors of Miss Mustard Seed milk paint, so that may have swayed my decision too 😉

I decided to paint the piece bergere from Miss Mustard Seed milk paint. I had never seen the color in person before and I was anxious to use it! I mixed up the paint as instructed and began painting! To be honest, I was a little afraid once I saw the color. Not because I didn’t like what I was seeing, but because it’s completely outside my comfort zone of neutral tones (aka white). I will admit though, I’ve been playing around with colors lately and it is fun to step outside my comfort zone!

I covered the entire piece with a solid coat and then went back over it with another light coat. I left some very small bits of white exposed at the bottom front of the table for character. As I described in my last post, my favorite part about the milk paint is when it lifts on it’s own. Simply scrape away the lifted paint with a paint scraper to reveal the natural beauty of the table. To seal the table, I used Miss Mustard Seeds furniture wax. It’s the easiest product to apply, I use a clean rag, wipe it on and done!

And so, the bergere table dons the perfect old, shabby chic appearance! What a beautiful, unique piece to add character into your home!

Thank you for stopping by today! See you next time 🙂
