Old antique table update

I’m finally getting around to writing the post for this sweet little, abused antique table I first shared on Instagram a couple of months ago! Why has it taken me so long to share you ask? Insert excuses… Lately, balancing everything I have going on daily is challenging! Some of you may not know my situation. I was a stay-at-home mom ever since my children were born. They are 11 and 6. In late December 2015, my (then) husband told me he wanted a divorce. As you can imagine, my world began to crumble! How was I going to survive and support the kids? Were we going to have to move? How am I going to make it on my own?

Those were just a few questions that ran through my mind. Thankfully, my dad owns his own business less than 2 miles from where we live. Now, I work for him part-time, sell our items at local shops, participate in barn shows and blog for my additional income. I’m thankful for it all, really! I am able to spend a lot of time raising my children, which is the best gift in the world! I am also able to design and create which is my immense passion! The best part, is this little blog is where I get to share those passions with you all!

Fast forward to now: the kids and I were able to stay in our home! Praise the Lord! He has been very good to us! However, that brings me back to balance. Getting it all done is hard! I used to be months ahead with my posts here on the blog. I strive to get back to that position! I do hope that you will continue to follow along with me in this journey 🙂

Now, back to that old antique table! I found two darling tables on a local facebook selling wall and snagged them quick! It would be safe to say, I have a thing for little antique tables! The simplicity of painting them and adding new hardware (if needed) makes my heart happy!

You may notice in the pics my floor is a mess (eek!), this is when we were in full kitchen remodel mode! I promise my floor doesn’t alway look like that. Just days before, I had ordered Miss Mustard Seeds milk paint in farmhouse white. I couldn’t wait to use it! If you’re not familiar with milk paint, it comes as a powder. You mix equal halves of powder and water. Mix well and allow to sit for 5 minutes. I began painting, covering the entire table. Once that coat was dry, I added another coat. This paint dries rather quickly, so you won’t have much down time!

My favorite thing about this paint, is it begins to flake up in spontaneous places throughout the piece. Using a paint scraper, I went back and began to flake away the lifted pieces. This effortlessly creates an aged feel. The paint covers all the abuse the table withheld in the past, but the chippy goodness that the milk paint brings out, still shows this table has age to it! And I adore that!

I sealed the entire piece using Miss Mustard Seeds tough coat sealer. Super simple product to use, apply, dry and you’re done!

The original purpose of this little table was for me to resale in our shows, but I loved it so much, I have decided to keep it for a while 🙂
