25 Days of Christmas

December 2, 2014 by Fotini Filed Under: 25 Days of Christmas, Christmas, Christmas 2014, Christmas traditions 167 Comments

I truly cherish the Holidays for the family traditions, memories made, gifts given and lessons learned. One of my favorite traditions I started with my children a couple of years ago, was the ’25 days of Christmas’! Today I have the pleasure of sharing with you our 2014 edition!

 Christmas

I begin preparing the first of November! I snag little goodies while I’m out and about throughout the month, with the concept in mind. My favorite spots are Target Dollar Spot, the Dollar Store, and Marshall’s clearance to name a few! I snag little things like classic Christmas books, coloring books, crafts, Nutcrackers, gingerbread kits and Christmas movies. I also buy a pack of cards with envelopes to write out the chosen activity or Bible verse for that day. I wrap the gifts and label each gift or envelope with 1-25. They don’t receive an actual “gift” everyday and the intent of this tradition is to focus on the good of the Season, doing for others and spending time together as a family! Here is our line up this year…

1. Mab libs Christmas book  2. Bible verse Luke 2:10  3. Veggie Tales movie  4. A Christmas Carol book  5. Bible verse Matthew 1:21  6. Make a snowman pizza and watch a movie  7. Nutcracker  8. Bible verse John 3:16  9. Enjoy hot chocolate and perppermint sticks  10. Decorate mugs  11. Make banner for basement  12. Write letters to Santa  13. Take letters to Macys and visit Santa  14. Gather unwanted toys  15. Gingerbread kits  16. Bible verse Romans 15:13  17. Wrap presents  18. Drive around and look at Christmas lights  19. Build a snowman  20. Zoo lights  21. Random Act of Kindness  22. Bible verse Isaiah 9:6  23. Christmas play  24. Bake cookies for Santa  25. Rejoice in the Lord!

Below is an example of the letter I type up and print out to give the people of choice that day for our random act of kindness! It’s so rewarding to see the reaction of the random people and of my children! Not to mention, the warm feeling I get too!

{ Gingerbread Fun }

December 9, 2012 by Fotini Filed Under: 25 Days of Christmas, fun with kids, gingerbread, gingerbread house 7 Comments

Day Five of our {25 days of Christmas} was a gingerbread house and train kit. Each year I normally buy all of the candy and graham crackers individually and we make our own icing, but this year I decided to skip the headache and just opt for a kit! It was much simpler this way, who knew 😉

My husband made the house, Christian made the train and I made the caboose. We had lots of fun constructing the pieces and decorating! Let me just say, my husband is stiff competition, every year he shocks me with his creativity! Too funny 🙂

Do you make gingerbread houses with your kids?

Probably caught him licking the icing at least five times!!

Enjoying the gingerbread man!
So proud 🙂

{ Wildlights }

December 6, 2012 by Fotini Filed Under: 25 Days of Christmas, Christmas lights, Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, Wildlights, Zoo 6 Comments

Day {four} of our 25 Days of Christmas, was visiting the Zoo, unfortunately that evening was raining so we went the next evening! It was cold but such a beautiful, clear evening to see the Wildlights! We live about 40 minutes away from The Columbus Zoo & Aquarium, which is such a beautiful park! Every year starting the middle of November, they offer the viewing of over 3 Million LED Christmas Lights! It is a truly magical sight to see!

It was my Grandparents from Greece, last night visiting before they headed back to Greece, so we enjoyed the evening keeping warm with hot chocolate, and embracing the beauty around us! My pictures aren’t the greatest, taken with my iPhone.

Christian and Isabella absolutely loved it, which made my heart smile 🙂

Celebrating the 25 Days of Christmas

December 1, 2012 by Fotini Filed Under: 25 Days of Christmas, Christmas, Christmas activities for kids, Christmas crafts, Kids Christmas

Last year I did a fun December Fun Jar with the kids, this year I decided to re-vamp it a little! I used the same concept but added some presents in the mix. Starting today ( December 1st) my kids will open either a present or envelope with a fun activity until Christmas day! It’s a fun way to celebrate the Holiday season, as well as learn about the true meaning of Christmas, Christ!

So here’s a breakdown of what I did:

1. Christmas movie
2. Christmas coloring book
3. Check out Christmas books at the Library
4. Visit the Zoo
5. Gingerbread train kit
6. Christmas craft
7. Eat candy canes!
8. Gather unwanted toys to donate
9. Write letters to Santa and take to Macys
10. Wrap presents
11. Make Reindeer food (recipe here!)
12. Drive around and look at Christmas lights
13. Build a snowman (hope there’s snow!!)
14. Christmas movie
15. Random act of kindness for the day!
16. Sing Christmas songs!
17. Pick out and buy family ornament of the year!
18. Bible Verse- Luke 1:39-45
19. Bible Verse- Luke 1:46-56
20. Bible Verse- Luke 1:57-66
21. Bible Verse- Luke 1:67-80
22. Visit Reindeer Farm
23. Enjoy a nice cup of hot chocolate
24. Make Christmas cookies
25. Rejoice in the Lord! Spend the day with family 🙂

I pre-assigned each gift and numbered it (makes it a little easier so I know what to expect!). Pick fun activities or gifts your family can enjoy together, the entire Holiday season!
