DIY botanical prints

Hi there and welcome! I’m pretty excited to share this simple, fun project the kids and I did this week using Glad Press’n Seal I picked up at Walmart. The days have been rainy nearly everyday here in Ohio, so I’m left finding ways to keep the little ones busy indoors! The great thing about this project is it can be done all year around!

A few things you’re going to need for this project are: a roll of Glad Press’n Seal, scissors, live leafs of any kind, kraft paper, stamps, ink and glue stick.

To begin, pull out and rip off a piece of the Glad Press’n Seal to your desired size. Lay it with the sticky side up. Grab a leaf or group of leaves you’ve chosen and press into place. Using kraft paper, stamps and ink, create labels according to the type of plant. Use a glue stick to hold into place. Grab another piece of Glad Press’n Seal, the same size as the first, and place sticky side down. Using your hands, push over the entire piece, leaving little to no air inside. Trim the ends and sides if needed, and voila! You now have your own little piece of botanical art!!

It’s amazing to think that a kitchen product could be used for so many different, creative things, but it’s endless! Using your imagination and creativity you can create anything! This is such a cool product because it adheres to nearly any surface!

The kids and I had a really fun time making these DIY botanical prints with leaves from around our yard! They can’t wait to make more using leaves from plants in our garden!

Kids Craft – – Handy Reindeer

Crafting with your kids is a lot of fun! It’s a great time for them to use their creativity and imagination! We always really enjoy making fun crafts that relate to the current season or Holiday. With Christmas right around the corner, we are in full swing around here with crafting 🙂 I thought it would be fun to take our mind off the hustle and bustle and get our hands dirty, literally!

Here’s what you’re going to need:

construction paper
craft paint, paint brush
googly eyes
pom pom balls, or similar
hot glue gun and glue
white crayon

I started by letting my son pick his page colors, he chose green and yellow. Paint the entire hand with brown paint. Expect giggles and wiggles. Christian is so ticklish, love those little laughs 🙂 Have them spread their fingers and firmly press the hand onto the page. Let dry and glue on the googly eyes and pom pom balls. Christian wanted to make both of his pictures Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer, so we glued red poms for the nose and green on what’s to be the antlers! We added a small piece of MERRY CHRISTMAS washi tape at the bottom, too! It was Christian’s idea to use a white crayon to make snowflakes around the page, and it looks so cute! He made one for us and one for our Nana and I know she’ll just love it!

Wall Letters- – Chevron!

I can still remember spelling out Christian’s name on the wall of his nursery when I was pregnant with him, back in 2006. So, I wasn’t exactly willing to part with those little white block letters just yet!

The current style of Christian’s room is a clean- line, retro style. I have been crazy about chevron lately, so I searched google for a navy chevron pattern. When I found the right one, I saved the image to my computer and made 9 copies. (Christian has 9 letters in his name) In case you were wondering, lol!

Here’s what supplies you’re going to need for this project:

block letters
paper pattern or fabric of your choice
scissors
decoupage ( see simple recipe below!)
pencil
exacto knife

First step, turn your paper pattern-side down, grab a letter, turn it backwards and trace it. Continue this step for each letter. Next, cut out each letter. Don’t worry about being perfect, you will go back later with the exacto knife! Once you’ve got them all cut out, begin brushing on the decoupage onto the letter and place the paper on top, smooth out, set aside and continue for the remaining letters. Let these dry for at least 15 minutes. Now, it’s time to make these letters perfect! Grab a magazine and your exacto knife. Flip the letter backwards and trim as close as possible. Using the magazine will allow you to push as hard as needed without scrapping your surface. Plus, just rip each page out when needed! For finishing touches, place your letters on newspaper and brush on generous amounts of decoupage, repeat as desired. I did this step three times. It seals any bubbles or frayed ends and gives it a shine!
