Fun Homework Station

January 4, 2016 by Fotini Filed Under: diy, school supplies 2 Comments

This post is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group® and Newell Rubbermaid , but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #stockup4schools http://my-disclosur.es/OBsstV

It’s hard to believe it has come and gone and it’s time for the kids to go back to school after Christmas break! It seems, after a little time off, the kids aren’t too thrilled to head back. Of course, going back to school means getting back into the routine of doing homework. My son is in the fourth grade and it can be a challenge for him to find a supplied, quite space for him to concentrate. That gave me the idea to create a fun homework station that he could call his own!

This homework station isn’t going to be anything over-the-top and something that anyone can easily put together! Remember, the main focus here is to encourage and accommodate your little ones doing their homework! I set up a little space in my sons room where he has a flat surface he can work on. We had this cute little industrial mini locker that would house all the goodies he needs to embrace his creativity or simply figure out his fractions, when necessary! To kick this little homework station off and add lots of fun color to play, we headed to Staples and purchased a Sharpie 24 pack of ultra fine markers. (1). He loves Sharpies, and (2). The pack includes any color he would ever need!

Once we were home, I gathered a few goodies we had like a clip board, storage bin, small buckets for the markers, pencils and some of his favorite books. TIP: Don’t add things to the homework station that are going to distract them from getting their work done! This defeats the purpose! I also wrote out a simple sheet that includes the day of the week and date, as well as, his nightly reading log. This way when he gets home from school, he can go straight to his station, fill in his homework for the night, complete it and check it off when it’s done! It’s a simple technique that will hold him accountable to his work each night. Creating routine and accountability to school work is something they will appreciate when they’re older (and you will too!).

My son is typically really good about focusing on his homework, but sometimes his little sister is too loud, there are other distractions that disrupt him and it ends up dragging out longer than it should. I can’t wait to see how our little homework station works for him! Do your children have a go-to place or homework station at your home? As you saw, with just a few simple products and a small space, you can create a place just for them!

I don’t think the title of your article matches the content lol. Just kidding, mainly because I had some doubts after reading the article.
